INDIAN RHUBARB
There is a wonderful place along Squaw Creek deep in the forest on the south side of the Mountain that is a quintessential Califormia wilderness experience. It is at the end of a dirt road where the river roars over boulders and the canyon rises high above the riverbed (at this point, Squaw Creek is a respectable mountain river). The flowing water , including small waterfalls at intervals keeps the air fresh and delicious that one savors each breath. Pines and mountain maple, dogwood and other tree species gracefully share living space and add their subtle scents to the mix.
And of course, the dirt path alongside the river is dotted with wildflowers of many kinds. Along the water's edge dwell plants with huge lavender compound flower heads and deep green leaves like elephant ears crowding each other, and shielding the bare stone of the cliff bases with their green. They grow in rows across the lip of the waterfall where a fallen tree has given their roots a place to cling as the water flows over them.
These last are the Indian rhubarb deva's family. The Life Force that flows around them is peaceful and serene and joyful. They stand tall as a human, rejoicing in the water .
The deva gladly agrees to share the gift of her particular geometry and explains it thus: "I am an emotional grounder for all animal beings--human and otherwise. Because my energy is so connected to the flow of water in the physical, I can help cleanse the emotions (which the water element represents) of bitter, discordant feelings. I am particularly helpful to those who tend to clutch resentments close and ruminate and nurse grudges. These are but stagnant energy and need to be surrendered to the flow of the River of Life which will wash everything clean."
Indeed, that is the atmosphere a dense growth of this deva's children maintain--a great purity of feeling and the ability to let go, as they do, and surrender to the song of the River.
